NEURAL ORGANIZATION TECHNIQUE CASE HISTORIES
Patient: six year old male Diagnosis: learning disabilities Treatment: treatment was given over an eight month period. Seen biweekly first month then once a month. Treatment began one year after patient was diagnosed (classified) Symptoms prior to treatment: 1. cognitive (easily distracted, had difficulty following directions, remembering names, numbers, verbal recall, could not grasp computer skills, currency/making change) Results of treatment: 1. cognitive (maintained task without distraction, follows direction easily, remembers names, is able to do simple addition & subtraction verbal recall improved, is able to work on computer, can make change.
Patient: 61 year old male Diagnosis: Brain injured (a motorcycle accident caused an epidural hematoma; a subsequent craniotomy resulted in right hemiparalysis) Treatment: The patient received 12 N.O.T. treatments over an 8 month period (1-2 treatments per month). Treatment began 9 months after the injury. Symptoms prior to treatment: 1. decreased flexion in right arm 2. aphasia/slurred speech with little articulation 3. a number of cognitive deficits (recognition of letters, numbers and words, distinguishing sounds, short term verbal memory and reading difficulties.) 4. difficulty with visual perception Results of treatment: 1. flexion in right arm improved 2. speech articulation and slurring improved 95% 3. improved cognitive skills (regained ability to read including recognition of letters, numbers and words; regained ability to distinguish sounds; short-term verbal memory improved) 4. increased visual perception.
Patient: 8 year old male Diagnosis: Auditory Processing, Visual Tracking Impairment, (was diagnosed with Autism at birth) Treatment: treatment was given over 8 months (10/19/98, 10/26/98, 11/16/98, 1/25/99, 3/1/99, 3/29/99 & 5/12/99) Symptoms prior to treatment: 1. poor eye contact (patient was not able to focus on person he was talking to (would appear as if he had a blank stare) 2. cognitive (auditory processing, inability to write cursive, poor attention span, sequential thought pattern, short term memory, visual perception, number recognition, sense of direction, extrapolating information, the patient was in special education classes) Symptoms after treatment: 1. the patient was able to maintain direct eye contact and was completely focused. 2. cognitive (auditory processing was resolved, cursive writing improved markedly, attention span was age appropriate; sequential thought pattern, short term memory, visual perception, number recognition, sense of direction, extrapolating information were all resolved and the patient was mainstreamed in school).
Patient: 54 year old male Diagnosis: Brain injured (concussion resulted from fall on ice) Treatment: The patient received 6 N.O.T. treatments over a 3 month period (treatments every 1-4 weeks). Treatment began 12 months after the injury. Symptoms prior to treatment: 1. speech was hesitant, slurred and monotone 2. equilibrium problems (inability to ride a bicycle, difficult climbing stairs, felt as if he would fall when standing) 3. headaches with nausea 4. photosensitivity (indoors and outdoors) 5. extreme fatigue (tired easily, spent most of day sleeping and nights awake; no strength to read, walk or talk more than 30 minutes, unable to work) 6. cognitive deficits (recognition of numbers, distinguishing left and right, spelling, sequential thought pattern) 7. deficits with fine motor skills. Results of treatment: 1. speech was 90% improved 2. no problems with equilibrium (able to ride a bicycle, climb stairs and go on long walks without difficulty) 3. headaches became infrequent and were no longer accompanied by nausea 4. photosensitivity restricted only to outdoors in strong sunlight 5. no longer felt fatigued (started exercising again, sleeping nights and went back to work) 6. cognitive deficits resolved (number recognition, distinguishing left and right, sequential thought pattern) 7. marked improvement in fine motor skills.
Patient: 35 year old male Diagnosis: Brain injury (car accident) Treatment: N.O.T. treatment was given twice daily for 1 week. (Intensive, short-term treatment given because patient was visiting from Europe.) Treatment began 26 months after the injury. Symptoms prior to treatment: 1. cognitive deficits (use of numbers) 2. low back pain Results of treatment: 1. cognitive deficits resolved 2. low back pain resolved.
Patient: 15 year old male Diagnosis: Brain injury (hit by car) Treatment: treatment was given for one year. The first 4 months treatment was given 2-3 times per week, the next 2 months once per week, and the last 6 months every 2 weeks. Treatment began 2 years after injury. Symptoms prior to treatment: 1. tremors 2. muscle spasticity/difficulty standing and walking- needed support 3. unable to feed or dress self or go to the bathroom without assistance 4. speech was slow and labored with an "odd sound" 5. cognitive deficits (no short term memory, reading comprehension) 6. post traumatic scoliosis Results of treatment: 1. tremors gradually subsided 2. able to walk unaided but with a spastic gait 3. able to feed himself with oversized utensils; able to dress himself and go to the bathroom alone. 4. improvement in speech but still has odd sounding quality. 5. cognitive deficits (short term memory and reading comprehension resolved - patient doing well in school) 6. scoliosis essentially eliminated.
